Erich Schröder (doctor)
Erich Schröder (born May 2, 1893 in Oberhausen , † November 13, 1968 in Bad Godesberg ) was a German doctor and university professor .
Live and act
After attending school, Schröder studied medicine in Tübingen and Göttingen . During his studies in Göttingen he became a member of the Göttingen Wingolf student association . He took part in the First World War as a field medical officer. In 1919 he received his license to practice medicine and was promoted to Dr. med. PhD . Initially city and welfare doctor in Essen , he was from 1924 City Medical Council in Oberhausen. In 1935 he became the editor of the journal The Public Health Service , the official organ of the Nazi health administration. In 1938 he completed his habilitation and became a lecturer at the Medical Academy in Düsseldorf . In 1942 Schröder, who had been a member of the NSDAP since 1940 , became the chief city medical director of the city of Berlin . In addition, from 1943 he was a lecturer at the University of Berlin.
After the end of the war, from 1945 he was chief physician at the Elisabeth-Diakonissen Hospital and medical officer in Berlin-Tiergarten . From 1948 he was professor for social hygiene and microbiology at the University of Göttingen and in 1953 he became professor for social hygiene and public health at the Free University of Berlin . Furthermore, he was appointed Senate Director for the Berlin-West health system. So he took over the position he had already held from 1942 to 1945 and replaced Paul Piechowski , a religious socialist , former pastor and doctor. He retired in 1959.
In addition, from 1956 he was President of the German Central Committee to Combat Tuberculosis and in 1961 became an honorary member of the German Tuberculosis Society. He was a member of the Federal Health Council and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in 1960 .
