Erika Binz-Blanke (born November 29, 1933 in Oebisfelde , Altmark ) is a German graphic designer , illustrator , exhibition designer, medalist and coin designer who has been a freelance artist in Baden-Baden since 1955 .

life and work

Erika Binz-Blanke completed her training from 1948 to 1952 at the College of Applied Arts in Magdeburg and from 1953 to 1954 at the University of Fine and Applied Arts in Berlin-Weißensee . In 1954 she moved to West Berlin.

The areas of work of the multiple award-winning artist include art in construction (glass, acrylic glass / steel), wall painting and illustration . In the area of ​​printmaking, Binz-Blanke works with etchings and the blow-out technique. She is particularly successful as a medal and coin artist .

She worked in her studio on Zimmerstrasse in Baden-Baden until she retired in 2019 for health reasons. In addition to her artistic work, she published various articles in the architecture magazine AIT .

Binz-Blanke describes the contrast between working as a graphic designer with, for example, large wall paintings and working as a coin designer as particularly appealing with the aim of "making a big statement in a small area".

The “Give or Take” medal designed by Binz-Blanke was selected as a contribution to the international medal exhibition on the occasion of the 33rd FIDEM Congress 2014 in Sofia.

Your design for the 10 Euro silver commemorative coin “50 Years of the Saarland State” (2007) won first place in the competition. The issue date was January 18, 2007, the coin was minted in Karlsruhe (G) with the margin inscription "DEUTSCHLAND * FRANCE * EUROPA *".

The “analog-digital-surreal” medal designed by Binz-Blanke comes from the Münzkabinett of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin from 2010. The silver coin has a weight of 24.69 g.

Binz-Blanke achieved second place in 2012 with her design for the 10-euro silver commemorative coin on the subject of “100 Years of the German National Library ”.

Third place was Binz-Blanke with her commemorative design of the 5 DM silver commemorative coin on the subject of “50. The anniversary of Friedrich Ebert's death ”in 1975 for the first time throughout Germany.

As an illustrator of board games, she designed the board for the classic board game "Scotland Yard" . Binz-Blanke worked for numerous other publishers and game manufacturers. She took over the graphic design of the classic game "Quiz Royal" from Ravensburger Verlag. The “Numbers Game 1–25”, a placement game with self-control for 1 to 4 children aged 6 to 8, is also part of Binz-Blankes Werken.
