Due to his longstanding activities for Bursaspor and Gençlerbirliği Ankara , he is associated with these clubs. For the latter team, he was also a team captain for a long time. After the end of his playing career, he was elected club president at his last club, Kızılcahamamspor , and has been in this office ever since.

Player career

society

Erkan Özbey started with club football in the youth department of Bursa Merinosspor . In 1995 he was accepted into the professional team of the then third division. After he was active here until the summer of 1995, he moved to the first division club Bursaspor . Since both clubs are based in the same city and do not play in the same league, they are benevolent. So Özbey was found to be insufficient for Bursaspor and loaned to Merinosspor for one season. After this loan period he was loaned to the first division club Kardemir Karabükspor for the 1997/98 season . Here he played a successful season and finished 9th in the table with his team at the end of the season. Returned to Bursaspor in the summer of 1998, he was accepted into the team by the coaching staff at the time. After playing a few games as a substitute, he quickly won a regular place and kept it until he left in the summer of 2003.

With the expiry of his contract, he moved in the summer of 2003 to the league competitor at the capital club Gençlerbirliği Ankara . In this club, Özbey rose to team captain and played a total of six seasons. During this time Özbey reached with his team for the 2004/05 season the 5th place in the table and the following two seasons the 6th place in the table. In the 2003/04 and 2007/08 seasons they reached the final of the Turkish Football Cup twice , but lost both final games.

In the summer of 2009 he left Gençlerbirliği after six years and moved to Kızılcahamamspor within the Ankara province . Here he was in the team for three years and then ended his active professional football career without having played a competitive game.

National team

Özbey played 19 times for the Turkish U-21 national team . He and his team took part in a U-21 European football championship , the U-21 European Championship 2000 , for the first time in the association 's history. Here, however, they were eliminated in the group stage.

After he made his debut for the second selection of the Turkish national team in September 2002 , he was nominated two months later in the context of a friendly match against the Italian national team in the team squad of the senior national team. In this game on November 20, 2002, he played his first and only international match.
