Erlöserkirche Bad Salzuflen (2017)

The Erlöserkirche in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Bad Salzuflen in the Lippe district is a cross-shaped, neo-Romanesque church building.

history

Due to the influx of foreign workers for Hoffmann's starch factories in the 1880s , the number of Lutherans increased sharply. In 1880 the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Bad Salzuflen was founded as a subsidiary of Bergkirchen . She was looked after by Pastor Johannes Hartog (1842–1916) from Bergkirchen. In 1879 a house on Ahornstrasse (today No. 23, demolished in 2017) was acquired and expanded into a chapel. In 1900 the community became independent.

Building history

In the summer of 1891, the construction of the church with detailed forms of the Rhenish late Romanesque began. The church was built from 1891 to 1892 according to a design by the architect Hermann Held ( Bethel ) under the supervision of Karl Siebold (Schildesche). The foundation stone was laid on July 12, 1891 and the church was consecrated on May 8, 1892, Sunday Jubilate .

In 1909 the 25 meter high tower with a tower ball and cross was built and the church was extended to the west. Since the construction of the Church of the Resurrection as the second church building in the parish, it has received the name Erlöserkirche.

1945–1946 the church was a British garrison church .

As part of a comprehensive renovation in 1969, the church received a new interior painting, a new organ, a new sandstone altar and a baptismal font. The last part of the renovation was, on the initiative of the then pastor Thomas Tegtmeyer, the expansion of a no longer needed boiler room into a crypt .

The building has been entered in the list of architectural monuments in Bad Salzuflen since April 30, 1987 under monument number 29 .

The parish takes part in the Open Church of the Lippe Regional Church . The church is also open on weekdays outside of the service times.

entrance

entrance

The 2-door entrance door is adorned with the psalm words “Go to his gates with thanks. Psalm 100: 4 ".

Vestibule

In the anteroom hangs the former altar painting (signed A. Cammann) with the picture of the crucified, who has come across here since the renovation and dismantling of the first altar.

apse

The arch in front of the apse is adorned with the biblical words: "Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life" ( Jn 5:24  EU ). The wooden pulpit with a sound cover is raised on the left and pushed out a little towards the listening community. The Easter window visible in the middle of the apse and the wooden crucifix are the central statements of the Protestant faith. The new simple sandstone altar stands in the middle of the apse.

Baptismal font

The current baptismal font was donated by the Catholic parish for renovation. The baptismal font bears the inscription "I have redeemed you, you are mine". ( Jes 43,1  EU ) In the baptismal font (designed by Waldemar Kögler, Bad Salzuflen) water rises from a crown of thorns and is distributed in four streams across the globe.

crib

To the right of the organ there is a crib by the artist Josef Grasedieck (1922–2013) from Raesfeld. It is made from the beam of a half-timbered house and a gift from a parishioner.

Stained glass window

The 21 stained glass windows and rosettes made of antique glass , cathedral glass , lead and black solder are by artists not known by name from around 1910.

organ

The Hamburg company Rudolf von Beckerath built the new organ for the Erlöserkirche in 1971 . For acoustic reasons, it was given its place in the front right next to the apse in the south transept near the community and the choir. The organ was inaugurated by Superintendent Klose (Detmold) in the Christmas Vespers in 1971 . The organ has 28 registers , two manuals and a pedal .
