Ernesto Duarte Brito

Ernesto Duarte Brito (born November 7, 1922 in Jovellanos , † March 4, 1988 in Madrid ) was a Cuban pianist, composer and band leader.

Duarte began his musical training in Matanzas and attended the Havana Conservatory from the age of 15. He began to study philosophy and literature, which he did not finish due to his success as a pianist and composer. In 1943 he became the pianist in Germán Labatard's Orquesta Hermanos Lebatard . He later joined other groups, including the Orquesta Continental and the Conjunto Colonial . For the singer Nelo Sosa he wrote the song Arrímate cariñito , which became popular all over Cuba.

Eventually he founded his own successful orchestra, for which he composed and arranged. In the course of time, this included musicians such as Benny Moré , Xiomara Alfaro , Tata Ramos , Rolando Laserie , Natalia Herrera , Inés María Sánchez , Gladyis Antúnez , Raúl Laborde , Matías Tabío , Salvador Levy , Tony Camargo , Amelita Frades , Fernando Áandolvarez , Fernando Áandolvarez González , Pedro Vargas , Nelo Sosa , Rolo Martínez and Celeste Mendoza . He went on three major concert tours with his orchestra and made recordings with Gema , Cubaney , Cristal and his own label Duarte .

Duarte went to Madrid in the 1960s. There he founded the Duhar label , where he released recordings with his orchestra. Eventually he became head of RCA Víctor's music offices in Madrid.
