Ernie Shepard

Ernie "Shep" Shepard , actually Ernest Shepard junior, (born July 19, 1916 in Beaumont (Texas) , † November 23, 1965 in Hamburg ) was an American jazz bassist.

Shepard played with Gene Ammons in the 1940s, with Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker in 1945 , with the Lem Davis Sextet, Eddie Heywood , Phil Moore , Stan Getz and Billy Eckstine . In 1949 he played with Slim Gaillard in New York . Then he was in a Rhythm & Blues quartet in Chicago and played in Shelly Manne's club in Los Angeles .

In 1962 he came to Europe with Duke Ellington's orchestra . He had to end that for health reasons and moved to Germany in 1964, where he worked for television and radio.

He has recorded with Phil Moore, Lem Davis, Bing Crosby , Frank Sinatra , the Andrews Sisters , Sonny Stitt , Gene Ammons, Eddie Heywood, Duke Ellington and his soloists Johnny Hodges and Paul Gonsalves and with Charlie Parker. Tom Lord recorded 81 recording sessions from 1944 to 1964 (bass, vocals).
