Ernst Dönhoff (* † 1693 ) was a Polish lieutenant general , Jägermeister of Lithuania , castellan of Wilna , voivode of Marienburg , Crown Marshal and Starost of Christburg .

Count Ernst Dönhoff came from the Dönhoff family and was the fourth son of Count Magnus Ernst Dönhoff († 1642) and Katharina von Dohna († 1659). His first marriage was to Zofia Anna Oleśnicka . From this marriage his only daughter, Countess Maria Johanna Katharina Dönhoff (1686-1723), was married to Count Stanisław Ernest Denhoff († 1728). In his second marriage he was married to Joanna Konstancja Słuszka († 1733), the widow of Count Władysław Denhoff († 1683).

Career / life

Ernest Dönhoff converted from the Reformed faith to Catholicism , and was then first, in 1666, a colonel in the royal guard in the regiment on foot. As early as 1670 he was major general , later also lieutenant general of the royal army. In 1676 Dönhoff was huntsman of Lithuania and in 1683 castellan of Vilna.

In 1683 Dönhoff was also the commander of the Polish infantry Johann III. Sobieskis at the siege of Vienna .

Dönhoff became Voivode of Marienburg in 1685, then also Crown Marshal and was Starost of Christburg. In 1687 he was marshal at the queen's court .
