Ernst Fern (born June 8, 1934 ; † November 14, 2019 ) was a German dance teacher .

Life

Ernst Fern worked as a dance teacher from 1959. Together with his wife Helga (* 1935), he brought the dance school into German living rooms in the 1960s . As of January 18, 1964, 25 episodes of the television series Do you permit? in the ARD broadcast. After the success of this television series, another 19 episodes were shown from 1966 to 1968 under the title Dance Party with the Ferns . Both television series were produced by Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). The dance couples danced to live music by the media band of the West German Radio Orchestra under the direction of Harald Banter . The black and white programs are occasionally broadcast on the TV channels One and ARD-alpha .

Ernst and Helga Fern married in 1956. In 1960 their first daughter Sonja was born. The Ferns took over the Kayser dance school in Düsseldorf in 1966 . In 1967 the second daughter Jessica was born.

They opened a second dance school in 1968 on Döppersberg in Wuppertal . Helga Fern died in 1995 at the age of 59. Daughter Sonja Fern-Gaßmann took over the management of the Wuppertal dance school in 1995.

In 1985 Fern married Annemarie Rauser, who worked for many years as a dance teacher in the Düsseldorf “House of Dance” on Jacobistraße. In 2009 Ernst Fern sold his Düsseldorf dance school to Claudia and Torsten Thiele and withdrew from the dance business. He has spent most of his time in Corsica since then .

The book We Learn to Dance with the Ferns , published in 1969, was published until 1995.
