Ernst Fischer (politician, 1891)

Ernst Fischer (born December 15, 1891 in Innsbruck ; † January 10 or January 12, 1978 in Reichenau an der Rax ) was an Austrian businessman and politician.

Life

Ernst Fischer came from a merchant family in Innsbruck and was the son of an Innsbruck devotional goods wholesaler. After he graduated from the Stella Matutina grammar school in Feldkirch in 1912 , he studied law at the University of Innsbruck . In 1913 he became a member of the Academic Association Austria . In World War I he served as a reserve officer, most recently as a first lieutenant in the reserve. After the end of the war, he and his brother Franz Fischer took over their father's devotional wholesale business in Innsbruck in 1918 . In 1921 he became state treasurer of the Self-Protection Association of Tyrol. In 1924 he received his doctorate as Dr. iur. In the same year he was appointed economic advisor to the Tyrolean provincial government. From 1922 to 1933 he was Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce. In 1933 he became chairman of the Tyrol State Trade Association and member of the Presidium of the Federation of Austrian Traders. In 1927 he was one of the founders of the KAV Rheno-Danubia Innsbruck as a band philistine.

In 1930 Fischer became deputy regional leader of the Tyrolean Home Army and in October 1933 regional leader of the Tyrolean Patriotic Front . From 1933 to 1934 he was a Christian Social Member of the Federal Council . In 1934 he was a member of the Tyrolean provincial government. From 1934 to 1938 he was the second deputy chairman of the State Council and from 1936 to 1938 he was a member of the Bundestag .

After the “Anschluss” of Austria , he was imprisoned from 1938 to 1941. As a result of the Stauffenberg assassination attempt , he was arrested again and because of his contacts with the resistance group “Free Austria. Gausturm Tirol ”sentenced to two years in prison because he was accused of preparing for high treason. On March 5th, 1945 he was released from prison.

After the end of World War II , he was appointed public administrator of the Bunzel und Biach AG paper mill in Wattens in 1945 and, after it was returned to the previous owners, was the company's commercial director until 1957. From 1958 to 1970 he was administrative director of the hotel company Tyrol-Europa.
