Ernst Formes (born January 30, 1841 in Mülheim am Rhein , † April 2, 1898 in Berlin ) was a German actor .

Life

Ernst Formes, son of Karl Formes and nephew of Theodor Formes and Auguste Formes as well as Wilhelm Formes , spent his childhood in Vienna , went from Karlsruhe , where he was supposed to attend the Polytechnic , in 1858 against the wishes of his parents to an actor troupe and led a wandering life until he got a permanent engagement in Stettin and then in Wiesbaden in 1860 (debut roles: "Kosinsky" and "Didier").

From 1862 to 1863 he was a member of the Stadttheater zu Breslau , from 1863 to 1865 under director Karl Treumann in Vienna at the Treumann and Carltheater, from 1865 to 1867 at the Hoftheater zu Wiesbaden, 1868 in Berlin at the Krolloper and from 1869 to 1877 Wallner- Engaged theater , where he immediately won the general approval of the audience.

After a temporary engagement at the Dresden Court Theater, Formes went to the Hamburg Thalia Theater in 1878 . His field was the farce ; the characters he liked best were dudes and bon vivants; but serious and cozy folk characters also found an excellent actor in him.

On January 21, 1898 he played the "Unteroffizier" in the violet eater . After this performance he collapsed unexpectedly and was taken to Bergmannsche Klinik, where he died on April 2, 1898 at the age of 57.

His grave is in the old cathedral cemetery of the St. Hedwigs parish on Liesenstrasse in Berlin. The lost bronze portrait tondo on the tombstone was made by the sculptor Johannes Boese .

His daughter was the actress Margarethe Formes .
