Ernst Gotthilf Bosse (born August 4, 1785 in Riga , † November 27, 1862 in Florence ) was a Baltic German history and portrait painter.

Bosse was first like his father, the municipal coach Joachim Gotthilf Bosse (1742–1795), a merchant in Riga, but then decided to train as an artist, first at the drawing school of Karl August Senff in Dorpat , then at the Imperial Art Academy in St. Petersburg . In 1814 he went to the Academy of Arts in Dresden to see Josef Mathias Grassi , whom he accompanied to Rome in 1819 . In 1820 he exhibited his works in Riga. In St. Petersburg he was commissioned to make copies after Italian masters for the imperial collections; to do this he traveled to Dresden and Florence . He became an honorary member of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome, professor and member of the Accademia di Belle Arti (Florence) and honorary member of the Accademia di Belle Arti in Parma . He painted many portraits. Most recently he lived in Florence.

His two sons were also painters: Eduard Georg Bosse (1810-1859) and Harald Julius von Bosse (1812-1894).
