Ernst Hamann (born September 2, 1862 in Dammerow, † June 2, 1952 in Rerik ) was a German teacher and local poet.

Life

Ernst Hamann was born the younger son of the landlord Ludwig Hamann (* 1823) and his wife Henriette (1832–1873), a daughter of the forester Wilhelm Schlange (1798–1882) from Jabel, known through Fritz Reuter . He spent some youth and school years in Waren . Since 1872 he attended the local high school and graduated Michaelis in 1883 with the Abitur. After school, he studied languages and German philology at the universities in Berlin , Munich , Rostock , Zurich and Lausanne . He did his state examination and dissertation at the University of Rostock.

In 1889 Hamann briefly received a professorship in Rostock. He then taught as a high school teacher in Malchin , Neubrandenburg and from 1893 to 1913 at the Gymnasium Fridericianum Schwerin .

Ernst Hamann was married to Martha Schultz (* 1862), daughter of the chef Wilhelm Heinrich Johann Schultz from Dobbertin Monastery . At the time of the 1900 census, there were two sons and a daughter living in his household.

After retiring, Haman spent his old age in Alt Gaartz (from 1938 a part of Rerik). His son Heinrich Hamann (* 1894) was a pastor here. His grave is in the cemetery of the Rerik seaside resort.

Works

He published two volumes of poetry Mien Lütt Welt (1904) and Treckfiedel (1914) and was the author of the Müritzlied .

Individual evidence

  1. today: Klein Dammerow, district of Buchberg (Mecklenburg)
  2. See the entry of Ernst Hamann's matriculation in the Rostock matriculation portal
  3. The information about his first activity in Rostock, which is documented several times in the literature, is not plausible: Ernst Hamann is not familiar with the Rostock university professors' catalog, which is designed to be complete, and the 1900 census list lists him in Schwerin as a senior teacher (not a professor!) At the grammar school. Hamann's (grammar school?) Professor title may go back to his later position at the Schwerin grammar school, or it was awarded to him for a service anniversary or occasionally when he retired.
