Ernst Heinrich von Suhm (born September 4, 1668 , † January 1, 1729 in Dresden ) was a Danish colonel , then Major General of the Electorate of Saxony and Poland .

Life

Ernst Heinrich von Suhm came from the Danish noble family Suhm and was a son of the royal Danish state councilor and administrator in Pinneberg , Heinrich von Suhm (1636-1700), and Margareta Dorothea von Felden (1648-1711). His brothers were u. a. the Danish admiral Ulrik Frederik von Suhm (1686–1758) and the Saxon diplomat Burchard von Suhm (1668–1729). He was not married.

Suhms was initially in the Danish service. With the rank of colonel he took part in the occupation of Western Pomerania , in 1716 led one of the 24 companies of the Karl Regiment , which took up quarters in Stralsund . In 1717 he was transferred with four companies of the Praetorius regiment to Greifswald , where he was in command of the local garrison from November of the same year.

During his stay in Western Pomerania, he successfully litigated the Zuhm family estates Marlow and Trockendorf in 1716–1720 , which he was able to take possession of in 1722 and later bequeathed to his nephew Ulrich Friedrich von Suhm .

He must then have changed to Electoral Saxon service, as he was promoted to the rank of major general by August the Strong , whose mother was a Danish princess, but died a little later in Dresden, where he was also buried on January 4, 1729.
