Ernst Roth (librarian)

Ernst Karl Ferdinand Roth (born August 13, 1857 in Berlin ; † September 5, 1918 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German librarian and botanist .

Life

Ernst Roth studied in Strasbourg and at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin botany and in 1883 with his dissertation Concerning the plants that accompany the Atlantic Ocean on the west coast of Europe to Dr. phil. PhD .

He then became an assistant at the Berlin Botanical Museum and in 1886 switched to the Royal Library as a librarian. In 1891 he went to the Royal University Library in Halle, where from 1904 he also managed the library of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina .

On March 24, 1905, Ernst Roth was elected member ( matriculation number 3180 ) of the Leopoldina.

From 1898, Ernst Roth was co-editor of the bibliography of German magazine literature .
