Ernst Sigismund von Wedell

Ernst Sigismund von Wedell (born August 27, 1704 in Cossin in the Neumark , † August 25, 1758 in Zorndorf ) was a Prussian major , commander of a grenadier battalion and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life

origin

His parents were the Danish lieutenant Georg Christoph von Wedell († April 10, 1716) and Lucretia Catharina von Beneckendorff († July 14, 1757) from the Stolzenfelde family.

Military career

Wedell entered Prussian service in 1722 and was employed in the "von Forcade" regiment . He rose to major and was wounded in the Battle of Thrush in 1745 and awarded the Order of Pour le Mérite for his bravery. During the Seven Years' War he was assigned a grenadier battalion . This was formed from the infantry regiments "von Forcade" and "von Winterfeldt" . Wedell fell in 1758 in the battle of Zorndorf .

He married on October 18, 1743 Louise Henriette von Sydow (* April 5, 1723; † February 28, 1756), daughter of Egidius Ehrentreich von Sydow . The marriage had two children:

  • Ernst Ludwig Friedrich (* October 18, 1747; † January 28, 1812) ∞ Charlotte Margarethe Wilhelmine von der Goltz (1743–1792), Chief Chamberlain of Princess Elisabeth of Prussia and daughter of Lieutenant General Karl Christoph von der Goltz .
  • Helene Sophie (December 24, 1753; † December 2, 1793) ∞ Karl Friedrich Ernst Truchseß von Waldburg (1743–1800)
