Karl Friedrich Ernst Truchseß von Waldburg (born May 5, 1743 in Tilsit , † April 4, 1800 in Warsaw ) was the Prussian major general and chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 4 .

Life

origin

His parents were Joachim Friedrich Ludwig Truchseß von Waldburg (1711-1777) and his wife Charlotte Sophie de la Chièze (von Chaise) (born September 19, 1717, † December 4, 1761).

Military career

Truchseß came in 1756 as a Junker in the Dragoon Regiment "von Meinecke" . During the Seven Years' War he took part in the battles near Prague , Kolin , Roßbach and Zorndorf . He then joined the army of Prince Heinrich and fought in the Battle of Freiberg . During that time he became ensign on January 12, 1757 and second lieutenant on May 17, 1758 .

After the war, it was not until June 15, 1772 that he was promoted to staff captain. As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On May 26, 1779 he was appointed major and on March 16, 1783 squadron chief. On June 17, 1788, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and two years later to colonel. On December 8, 1792 he was appointed commander of the "von Prittwittz" dragoon regiment. During the campaign in Poland in 1794, he took part in the Battle of Warsaw , for which he received the order Pour le Mérite . On January 9, 1796, he was appointed major general. The following year, on August 22, 1796, he was appointed chief of the cuirassier regiment "von Mengden".

He died in Warsaw on April 4, 1800 and was buried on April 7, 1800.

Truchseß married on February 16, 1773 Helene Luise von Wedel (* December 24, 1753 - December 29, 1793), daughter of Ernst Sigismund von Wedell . The couple had the following children:
