Egidius Ehrentreich von Sydow

Egidius Ehrentreich von Sydow (* 1669 on Good inches at Soldin , † 8. November 1749 in Berlin ) was a Prussian General of the Infantry , chief of an infantry regiment, commander of Berlin and Amtshauptmann of Giebichenstein and Moritzburg and hereditary lord of inches. He was also a member of the tobacco college of Friedrich Wilhelm I.

Life

origin

His father was the Swedish Rittmeister and heir to Blumberg Jochen von Sydow († 1671), his mother Sophia von Liebenthal († after 1686) from the Rheetz family (Renitz). His mother's parents were Joachim von Liebenthal and Maria von Hagen from the Nauplin family.

Military career

Sydow had been in the army of the Brandenburg Elector Friedrich Wilhelm since 1685 . With this he fought in French, Swedish and Turkish wars. He fought in Brabant and under Prince Eugene . On July 1, 1710 he was a lieutenant colonel in the "Regiment Varenne on foot" . During the Pomeranian Campaign in 1715/16 he fought off Stralsund.

On January 3, 1719, Sydow became a colonel . His patent was dated December 24, 1718. After the death of Jean Quirin de Forcades , the chief of Infantry Regiment No. 23 , this regiment was transferred to him. On June 11, 1732 he was promoted to major general and in December 1735 appointed commander of Berlin. On July 31, 1740 Sydow was raised to lieutenant general and on May 25, 1743 to general of the infantry.

In 1741, Sydow was in command of the second meeting of the Upper Savior Army in Brandenburg under Leopold von Anhalt-Dessau . On November 7th of the same year he was honored with the Order of the Black Eagle by Friedrich II . In 1743 he gave his regiment to Major General Wolf Alexander Ernst Christoph von Blanckensee because of his age and a stroke he had suffered . But he remained in command of Berlin and governor of Giebichenstein. He received a pension of 3000 thalers . After his death, Sydow was buried in the crypt of the garrison church in Berlin .

family

Sydow was married to Anna Charlotte von Brandt (* 1691; † September 21, 1752) from the Wutzig family. She was the widow of Colonel Ernst Melchior von Brummsee († 1712), formerly in command of Driesen and daughter of Major General Paul von Brandt . The couple had three sons and three daughters, including:

  • Friedrich Wilhelm (* 1718; † 176?), Prussian captain ⚭ 1743 Sophie Auguste Wilhelmine of Gender called von Rabensteiner
  • Anton Ludwig (* 1721; † 1755) from 1753 on Mr.
  • Sophie Charlotte (* 1722) ⚭ Karl Friedrich von Beneckendorf († 1788), President of the Oberamtsregierung in Breslau
  • Henriette Luise (* 13 or 30 March 1723; † 28 February 1756 (also: 23 October)) ⚭ Ernst Sigismund von Wedell (* 1704; † 25 August 1758 near Zorndorf )
  • Joachim Siegmund (* May 28, 1727; † April 1763), died of the late effects of his wounding in the Battle of Hochkirch in 1757
  • Anna Hedwig (April 1730 - before 1764) ⚭ Christoph Ernst von Aderkas (August 1, 1720 - October 22, 1792), Prussian captain, court master of Count Christian Friedrich zu Stolberg-Wernigerode
