Paul von Brandt (born May 6, 1650 in Stargard , † November 8, 1697 in Wutzig) was a major general in Brandenburg and Prussia .

Life

Paul was a member of the Brandenburg aristocratic family Brandt and a son of the Brandenburg Privy Councilor, New Mark Chancellor and Director of the New Mark Chamber of Commerce, as well as heir to Hermsdorf and Wutzig, Christian von Brandt († May 1663) and Gertrud von Rühlicke from the House of Gralow. Military career

Brandt was lieutenant colonel in Brandenburg from 1682 . On August 28, 1684, Elector Friedrich Wilhelm appointed him commandant of Driesen . In this position he was promoted to colonel on February 22, 1687 . As such he received in 1691 from Friedrich III. the order to set up a regiment of five companies for the Hungarian auxiliary corps. He then took part in the campaign against the Turks in 1691/92 . For his achievements Brandt was appointed major general of the cavalry on June 21, 1692. He also received a gift of 2000 thalers .

family

Brandt had married Henriette Katharina von Somnitz from the house of Grumsdorf (1657–1712), daughter of Lorenz Christoph von Somnitz in 1679 . Several children were born from the marriage. Including:
