The family zu Bewersdorf in Stolper Land can be traced back to the earliest times . As the first member of the family, Peter Somnitz appears in a document in 1372 . The secured family line begins with Lorenz von Somnitz , councilor of the Pomeranian Duke Barnim IX. His brother Peter von Somniz was captain of Köslin and Bublitz .

One of the best-known representatives of the family was Lorenz Christoph von Somnitz (* 1612, † 1678), privy councilor and diplomat from Kurbrandenburg . 1655 he was appointed by the Great Elector with the Erbkämmereramt of the Duchy of Pomerania and the Principality of Cammin invested and in 1656 the Chancellor appointed by Pomerania. As a diplomat and authorized representative of the Electorate of Brandenburg, he was involved in the peace agreements between Nijmegen and Oliva . From 1658 he was the first captain of Brandenburg in the states of Bütow and Lauenburg .

The family property has been steadily expanded over time. The main holdings were in Lauenburg , where the following goods were owned by the family around 1780: Bebbrow , Charbrow / Degendorf , (Königlich) Freist and Adlig Freest (on Woiwodschaftsstrasse 213 ), Jatzkow , Schwartow and Schartowke as well as Speck .
