Ernst Wagner (theologian)

Rudolf Wilhelm Ernst Wagner (born July 22, 1878 in Grebenau , † March 4, 1966 in Bensheim ) was a German Protestant clergyman and theologian.

Life

Born as the son of pastor Heinrich Wagner, Wagner grew up in Romrod and Wetterfeld and, after graduating from high school in Laubach, studied Protestant theology at the universities of Leipzig , Gießen and Erlangen . After attending the Friedberg seminary , he passed his second theological exam in 1902 and was ordained in Gross-Gerau , where he worked as vicar and parish administrator until 1903 . Further professional positions were Schönberg and Geinsheim am Rhein . From 1910 until his retirement in 1949 he was pastor in Bensheim. From 1945 onwards he worked as a member of the church leadership of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau and from 1946 as administrator of the Zwingenberg deanery .

Wagner had been a member of the Gustav-Adolf-Werk since 1910 and worked there in various honorary positions, for example from 1934 as chairman of the Hessian main association and from 1948 as chairman of the Central West. After 1945 he was one of the founders of the CDU in Bensheim .

Honors

Wagner was awarded an honorary theological doctorate from the University of Giessen in 1932 and the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class, in 1959 .
