Ernst Zimmermann (theologian)

Ernst Christoph Philipp Zimmermann (born September 18, 1786 in Darmstadt ; † June 24, 1832 there ) was a Protestant theologian and court preacher of the Hessian Grand Duke .

Life

Ernst Zimmermann, brother of Karl Zimmermann , studied philology and theology in Giessen and became a preacher at Auerbach an der Bergstrasse in 1805 , where he began his edition of Euripides in 1808 (Frankfurt a. M. 1808–15, 4 volumes), 1809 Deacon in Groß -Gerau , 1814 court deacon of Darmstadt and 1816 court preacher. He died on June 24, 1832 in Darmstadt. Ernst Zimmermann was buried in the Alter Friedhof (Darmstadt) (grave site: IE 121).

Zimmermann earned merit by founding the Allgemeine Kirchenzeitung (subtitle: An archive for the latest history and statistics of the Christian Church, together with a collection of church history and canon law documents , since 1822) and the Allgemeine Schul-Zeitung (since 1824). His sermons were collected in eight volumes (Darmstadt 1815–1831).
