Ernst von Mollard, Freiherr zu Drosendorf and Reineck (also Mollart, Mollarth ) (* around 1555?, Before 1576; † 1620 in Savoy?) Was an Austrian nobleman. He was Obersthofmarschall and close confidante of Emperor Rudolf II.

Life

Ernst was the eldest son of Peter I von Mollard († 1576), who as chamberlain of Emperor Maximilian II was raised to Baron von Reinegg (also Reineck ) in 1571 , and Anna Kastellánfi von Szentlélek.

Ernst von Mollard Freiherr von Reineck was first treasurer of the three older sons of Maximilian II, became treasurer of the emperor on July 12, 1576, and after his death chamberlain to Archduke Ernst . On October 22, 1585, Freiherr von Mollard became a Lower Austrian regimental councilor, and in 1593 he was appointed chief chamberlain and chief steward to Archduke Ernst and - after he became governor of the Netherlands - accompanied him to Brussels. After his death in February 1595, the baron returned to Austria and on June 22, 1596 received his previous position as a regional councilor again. In 1599 he accompanied Archduchess Margaretha from Graz to Spain, where she entered a monastery.

On April 8, 1600 Emperor Rudolf II appointed him to the court chamber councilor and on December 23, 1601 to the governor of Austria under the river Enns and council of Archduke Matthias . On October 1, 1606, he was appointed Obersthofmarschall by the Kaiser. Before that, Rudolf II authorized him to negotiate peace with the Hungarians, a few weeks later there were disagreements over the agreed peace with the Turks and Mollard lost the emperor's favor. In March 1607 Mollard left Prague, but could not regain Rudolf's trust, also because of the conflict between Matthias and Rudolf. Mollard did not return to Prague until July 1609 and took over his previous office. In December attempts by the baron to mediate between the imperial brothers with the help of his brother Hans von Mollard failed. Matthias withdrew Ernst Mollard's governorship in 1608 and did not take him into service, as Mollard remained loyal to Emperor Rudolf II until his death in 1612. Ernst spent the last few years withdrawn without any public functions. In 1600 he donated the St. Ulrich monastery in Vienna to the Capuchins .

Ernst von Mollard Freiherr von Reineck was first married to Anna Colonna von Fels and then from June 8, 1607 to Anna Maria Freiin von Kollonitsch . In the Viennese suburb of St. Ulrich , "Am Plätzel", he acquired a few houses, which he combined with his property and finally made available to the Capuchin Order, who was coming to Vienna, as a branch.
