Paul Sixtus von Trautson , since 1598 Imperial Count of Falkenstein , Baron zu Sprechenstein (* around 1548 - † July 30, 1621 in Vienna ), Lord of Matrei , Schrofenstein , Bideneck etc. in Tyrol and Lord of Poysbrunn , Laa an der Thaya etc. in Lower Austria, was an Austrian statesman.

Paul Sixtus III. von Trautson came from the Trautson family . His father was Johann III. von Trautson , who brought the von Tirol family to the Viennese court. His mother was Brigitta Madruzzo , younger sister of Cardinal Christoph Madruzzo .

Life

Paul Sixtus grew up at the Viennese court. In 1581 he became Obersthofmarschall . In 1582 he was appointed President of the Imperial Court Council. In 1598 Emperor Rudolf II raised the rule of Falkenstein to a free county and Paul Sixtus and his descendants to the rank of imperial count. In 1600 he fell out with Emperor Rudolf II and retired to Falkenstein Castle and Poysbrunn Castle, which he had expanded. Falkenstein was expanded into a Renaissance fortress. The new south wall, including the roundabout, comprised a newly constructed kennel , the third courtyard and the so-called rose garden. In Poysbrunn , the medieval fortress was expanded into a four-wing palace. In the brotherly dispute , Paul Sixtus supported Archduke Matthias and returned to politics. From 1608 he was governor of Lower Austria. In 1612 he was accepted into the Order of the Golden Fleece . In 1615 he received the Grand Palatinate and the coin shelf .

Paul Sixt III. von Trautson died in Vienna in 1621 and is buried in the Michaelerkirche in Vienna .

Paul Sixtus was married three times. First marriage to Anna von Eizing, second to Anna Popel von Lobkowitz. His third marriage was in 1604 when he married Susanna Veronika von Meggau (* 1580, † January 15, 1648), sister of Leonhard Helfried von Meggau . From this marriage he had descendants:

  • Johann Franz von Trautson , Count von Falkenstein (* 1609, † 1663)
  • Maria Elisabeth von Trautson (* 1610, † 1663) ⚭ March 10, 1626 in Vienna Johann Rudolf Reichsgraf von Puchheim († January 17, 1651 in Vienna, buried in the Minoritenkirche) on Raabs an der Thaya , Göllersdorf , Mühlburg, Krumbach, Kirchschlag , Saubersdorf, Erlach am Steinfelde.
