Ernst von Raven

Ernst von Raven (* 1816 in Groß Luckow ; † January 18, 1890 in Düsseldorf ) was a German landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Von Raven, offspring of the noble family Raven from Uckermark , came to Wesel as a military man , where he served as an officer in the infantry regiment "Graf Barfuß" (4th Westphalian) No. 17. After completing his military career, he trained as a painter in Düsseldorf. In the summer of 1852 he went on a trip to the Swiss Alps with August Becker , August Leu and Arnold Schulten . Von Raven also belonged to the circle of friends of the painter Ernst Bosch . He was a member of the artists' association Malkasten , lived in Düsseldorf- Pempelfort and mainly painted motifs from the Bavarian highlands, the Salzkammergut, Tyrol and Switzerland. In addition to Eduard Schulte in Düsseldorf, he exhibited in Berlin, Dresden, Cologne, Bremen, Hanover and Paris.
