Erwin Bockelmann

Erwin Bockelmann (* 21st January 1903 in Moscow , Russian Empire ; † 10. April 1971 in Hamburg ) was a German mechanical engineering - engineering and manager in the oil industry .

Life

Erwin Bockelmann was born on January 21, 1903 in Moscow as the son of the German banker Heinrich Bockelmann and his wife Anna.

After graduating from high school in Sweden and Switzerland, he studied general mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Hanover , the Technical University of Berlin and the Technical University of Munich . In 1927 he completed his studies with the academic degree of a graduate engineer . First he worked at Julius Pintsch AG in Berlin. From 1934 he worked for the European Tanklager- und Transport-AG (Eurotank) and was a member of the board there from 1935; after 1945 the company was called Petrol and Petroleum-AG ( BP ) . Bockelmann built up the BP refinery in Hamburg-Finkenwerder .

In 1950 he joined the management of Deutsche BP when Eurotank and Olex were merged.

His most important functions were as chairman of the board (general director) of BP Hamburg since June 25, 1957 and since 1958 as chairman of the mineral oil industry association . On January 1, 1959, Bockelmann took over the chairmanship of the Presidium of the Working Group for Petroleum Extraction and Processing (AEV).

In 1963 Bockelmann officiated as President of the VI. World Oil Congress in Frankfurt am Main, one year later he was appointed President of the Permanent Council of the World Oil Congress. He was also a member of the presidency and board of the Federation of German Industries and a member of the supervisory board of Erdölchemie GmbH in Dormagen . In his functions, especially as spokesman for the mineral oil industry, Bockelmann repeatedly advocated a consumer-oriented energy policy.

On October 1, 1967, Bockelmann handed over the chairmanship of BP to Heinrich Sasse .

Bockelmann and his wife Liselotte had three children, two sons and a daughter, and lived on Elbchaussee in Hamburg. In his spare time he read science books and enjoyed traveling.

Erwin Bockelmann was an uncle of Udo Jürgens and Manfred Bockelmann on his father's side . His brother Werner Bockelmann was a lawyer and politician.
