Erwin Kemna (born October 18, 1950 in Ladbergen ) is a former functionary of the right-wing extremist NPD , member of the federal executive board and federal treasurer of the party and managing director of the party publisher German Voice .

NPD functionary

The working as manager of a kitchen studios Kaufmann was in 1974 a member of the party. In 1975 he took over the post of district treasurer in Steinfurt, North Rhine-Westphalia, and rose three years later to the state board of the NPD North Rhine-Westphalia, where he acted as state treasurer from 1990 to 2001 and later as deputy state chairman . At the end of the 1970s, he also worked in the Steinfurt district for the NPD-affiliated citizens' initiative Ausländerstopp . In 1987 Kemna was elected for the first time as a member of the NPD federal executive committee, of which he has been a member until 1991 and again since 1993. In 1996 he became federal treasurer.

In 1998 he ran for second place on the national list of the NPD for the Bundestag, and in the 2005 Bundestag election he stood as a direct candidate for the NPD in the Coesfeld - Steinfurt II constituency .

In September 2008 he resigned from the NPD after being convicted of misappropriating party assets.

Kemna's role in the 2001/02 NPD ban proceedings

In the course of preparations for the failed ban proceedings against the NPD in 2001, it became known that several party members summoned as witnesses were working as V-men for the protection of the constitution . Permission to testify from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution of North Rhine-Westphalia was presented for one of these witnesses. According to the Berliner Tagesspiegel of January 22, 2002, it is said to have been Erwin Kemna. The latter then declared that he had “never had anything to do with an intelligence service” and vehemently denied V-Person activity. At the same time, however, the Interior Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Fritz Behrens is said to have declared in the Tagesspiegel that Kemna had cooperated with the protection of the constitution until 1995. The Tagesspiegel withdrew its claim on January 24th. In the following period Kemna sued several journalists , anti-fascists , but for example, the neo-Nazi Web site stoertebeker.net on omission of such statements.

Misappropriation of party assets

On February 7, 2008, Kemna was arrested on suspicion of infidelity at the expense of the NPD. The Berlin party headquarters of the NPD, the publishing house of German Voice in Riesa and Kemna's private and business premises in Münsterland were searched to secure evidence against Kemna. Since the beginning of 2004, Kemna is said to have diverted around € 627,000 from the NPD to his kitchen company in at least 65 cases.

As early as December 2006, the news magazine Der Spiegel reported on “opaque real estate deals” and “ominous financiers” of the NPD, with the name Kemnas appearing several times. After a financial institution reported suspicion of money laundering , the Munster public prosecutor opened an investigation against Kemna in March 2007. Since the Münster District Court saw a risk of escape and blackout, an arrest warrant issued at the end of January 2008 was carried out.

The NPD stood behind their federal treasurer. Party leader Udo Voigt rejected “all previous convictions” against Kemna and assured him “full confidence”. According to Voigt, the investigation should only put the party in “financial twilight” and “get into financial difficulties”. Kemna admitted payments to the public prosecutor, but alleged that it was only a loan repayment . Since he was unable to produce any evidence for this, the public prosecutor's office assessed his statement as a protective claim. The Münster District Court ordered pre- trial detention . In the course of the investigation, the party headquarters of the NPD was also searched.

On July 23, Kemna was charged with 86 cases of infidelity and, following a confession on September 12, 2008, was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison. Another criminal case with similar allegations was discontinued on February 4, 2013 with regard to the conviction that had already taken place.
