Erwin Schadel

Erwin Schadel (born June 13, 1946 in Thurn (Heroldsbach) , † November 27, 2016 ) was a German philosopher .

Life

After graduating from the Musisches Gymnasium in Erlangen in 1966, he did military service from 1966 to 1968; thereby self-study of Greek and Hebrew (in July 1968 Graecum at the Humanist Gymnasium in Straubing , in February 1969 Hebraicum at the Ev. Theol. Fac. Erlangen). From 1968 to 1972 he studied classical philology, philosophy and theology at the universities of Erlangen and Würzburg (autumn 1972/1977: 1st and 2nd state examinations for teaching at grammar schools). From 1972 to 1974 he completed a doctoral degree at the University of Würzburg (graduate support from the University of Würzburg). After receiving his doctorate in 1975 with a thesis on Augustinus ' De magistro , he worked from 1977 to 1980 as a research assistant at the DFG project W. Totok: Handbuch der Gesch. of philosophy (especially vol. III: Renaissance; vol. IV: 17th century) at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz library . Since 1980 he has been employed at the Chair of Philosophy I (since 1996 as Academic Director) in Bamberg . In 1986 he became Socio Honorario of the Sociedad Católica Mexicana de Filosofía. The Palacký University of Olomouc awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2001 .
