Erwin Freiherr Zeidler von Görz (born February 8, 1865 in Vienna , † January 3, 1945 in Villach ) was a high-ranking genius officer in the Austro-Hungarian Army . During the First World War he was a multiple division leader, most recently with the rank of field marshal lieutenant .

Erwin Zeidler was the son of a professor and entered a Viennese cadet institute after graduating from high school . On August 18, 1885, he was promoted to lieutenant in the kuk engineering unit. On November 1, 1888, he was appointed first lieutenant and until 1893 was assigned to the chief genius of the Zara military command. On November 1, 1894 he became captain of the kuk Geniekorps in Cattaro and directed the fortification of the Kobila-Höhe. From 1897 to 1899 he was head of the 5th Pioneer Field Company in Trento , and around 1900 he was the construction manager of the artillery fortifications on Monte Brioneat Riva. On May 1, 1901, he was raised to major, until 1905 he was the XIII. Corps assigned and became a teacher at the local corps officer school. In 1904 Major Zeidler came to Peterwardein as director of genius . On November 1, 1905, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. 1907 to 1910 teacher in the higher genius course. Even before the beginning of World War I, Zeidler was promoted to major general on May 1, 1914, and at the beginning of the war he was commander of the combined 7th Infantry Division. In October 1914 he took over the newly formed 16th Mountain Brigade of the XV. Corps (General of the Infantry Michael von Appel ) during the Battle of the Drina . From December 1914 to February 1915 he commanded the 48th Infantry Division near Sarajevo. In May 1915 he was called to the new front in Italy , where he led the 58th Infantry Division, which was part of the XVI. Corps (Feldzeugmeister Wenzel von Wurm ) fought and took over the defense of Monte Sabotino on the Isonzo front . On December 11, 1916, Emperor Karl I signed a decree by which Major General Zeidler was elevated to the Austrian nobility. The corresponding diploma with the award of the title "Edler von Görz" was issued on March 16, 1917 in Vienna. The rating refers to Zeidler's military achievements in the defense of the Gorizia bridgehead .

On May 1, 1917, Zeidler was promoted from Gorizia to Lieutenant Field Marshal. On August 17, 1917, he was awarded the Military Maria Theresa Order , which raised him to the status of Austrian baron. The corresponding diploma was issued on October 3, 1917 in Vienna.

In June 1918 Zeidler von Görz took over the leadership of the XXIII. Army Corps on the Piavefront. After the war he was adopted and on January 1, 1919 retired to Villach.

1940 Zeidler von Görz was given the character of a general of the infantry of the German armed forces .

In Villach, the "Zeidler-von-Görz-Straße" near the Villach main station is named after him.
