Erwin von Mohl

Erwin von Mohl (born December 2, 1839 in Tübingen , † October 15, 1895 in Karlsruhe ) was a Prussian major general and most recently commander of the 14th artillery brigade.

Life

origin

His parents were the Real Secret Council , President of the Chamber of Accounts and Professor of Constitutional Law in Heidelberg and Tübingen, Robert von Mohl (1799–1875) and his wife Pauline, b. Becher (1808-1894). His brother Ottmar von Mohl (1846–1922) became a Prussian diplomat, his sister Anna von Helmholtz (1834–1899) became a well-known society lady.

Career

He received his education at the grammar school in Heidelberg and at the upper secondary school in Stuttgart. He then came to Karlsruhe as a cadet and, after graduating on September 9, 1858, was transferred to the Baden field artillery regiment as a portepeefähnrich. On April 20, 1859 he came as a lieutenant in the Baden foot artillery battalion and on October 1, 1862 in the field artillery regiment. There he was promoted to Premier Lieutenant on October 24, 1864. From May 1, 1865 to May 28, 1866 he was assigned to the Grand Duke Friedrich von Baden as an orderly officer . During the German War he fought against the Prussians in the battles near Tauberbischofsheim and Gerchsheim .

After the war, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Military Treasury from September 14, 1867 to February 15, 1868. He was then assigned to the artillery shooting school in Berlin from February 15, 1868 to July 1, 1868. After his return, he came on October 1, 1868 as a captain in the fortress artillery battalion. On August 10, 1879, he was raised to the nobility of Baden. During the Franco-Prussian War he fought in the sieges of Strasbourg and Metz . For this he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class on September 27, 1870 .

After the war and the founding of the Reich , the Baden army was integrated into the Prussian army on the basis of a military convention. On July 15, 1871, he was transferred to the fortress artillery battalion No. 14 as a captain and company commander with a patent on August 4, 1870. On May 13, 1879, he was promoted to major and on as a regular staff officer. He was then transferred to Field Artillery Regiment No. 6 on May 13, 1880, where he was commander of the 1st Division. On February 12, 1881, he was transferred to Division I of Field Artillery Regiment No. 25. From there he came on October 14, 1884 as commander of the 2nd division in the 2nd Guards field artillery regiment, but on September 18, 1886 he came back as commander of the 1st division in the field artillery regiment No. 25. There he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on January 15, 1887, and on January 15, 1887 he was appointed as a regular staff officer. On April 17, 1866, he came as a commander in the field artillery regiment No. 24 and was promoted to colonel on May 22, 1889. On June 26, 1891, he was posted to the 4th Field Artillery Brigade to represent Major General August von Hahn . On July 16, 1891, he came as a commander in the 4th Field Artillery Brigade and was placed à la suite of Field Artillery Regiment No. 25. On September 19, 1891, he received the Order of the Crown, 2nd Class, and on March 29, 1892, he was promoted to Major General.

On July 28, 1892, he became the commander of the 14th Artillery Brigade. He was on 14 September 1893 the Red Eagle 2nd Class with oak leaves awarded, on 16 June 1894, he was then with pension for grabs asked. He died on October 15, 1895 in Karlsruhe.
