action

Evita travels to see her fiancé Luis, an officer stationed in Mozambique during the Portuguese colonial war in the late 1960s. She quickly notices that Luis has changed a lot and is now emulating his superior Forza Leal. When the two officers set out for an operation in northern Mozambique, she tries to get close to Forza Leal's wife to find out what could have changed Luis. From Helena, who lives withdrawn, she learns of atrocities and a colonial society eaten up by guilt and lies, which is approaching its end.

reception

In 2005 the film received four nominations for the Globo de Ouro in the categories of Best Film , Best Actor (Filipe Duarte) and Best Actress (Mónica Calle and Beatriz Batarda). Batarda was awarded the Globo de Ouro for her portrayal of Evita.

“The cinematically convincing, sleepwalker-safe deconstruction of a pious life lie that tells of the end of a supposedly great nation and thereby puts a finger on the wounds that have not healed to this day. A masterpiece that is reminiscent of an attitude towards life and at the same time questions its content of poetry and truth. "
