Eshtaol ( Hebrew אֶשְׁתָּאוֹל Eschta'ōl ) is a moshav in the Regional Association Mateh Yehuda in the district of Jerusalem .
history
The name of the moshav refers to the biblical site of Eshtaol, which was in the area. According to the Bible, Samson stayed "in the Dans camp between Zora and Eschtaol" ( Jud. 13.25 EU ) and is said to have been buried there nearby.
The modern settlement was built by Yemeni Jews from 1949 . The moshav was to become part of a corridor of Jewish cities and villages between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv . The first settlers were mainly occupied with the utilization of the land and the afforestation of the Eschtaol forest . They were supported by the Jewish National Fund, which built a tree nursery in the moshav . Later on, poultry farming and agriculture also became important industries.
