Esmee Visser (born January 27, 1996 in Leiden ) is a Dutch speed skater .

Career

Visser had her first international success at the Junior World Championships 2015 in Warsaw . There she won the gold medal in the team pursuit. She also achieved 22nd place over 1500 m and seventh place over 3000 m. A year earlier she was the Dutch junior champion over 3000 m and 5000 m. At the beginning of the 2017/18 season, she started the World Cup in Stavanger for the first time . She won the 5000 m run in the B group. In January 2018 she became European champion over 3000 m at the European Championships in Kolomna . At the season highlight, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she ran a personal best of 6: 50.23 minutes and surprisingly won the gold medal in the 5000 m. At the beginning of the 2018/19 season she won her first World Cup victories over 3000 m in Obihiro and over 5000 m in Tomaszów Mazowiecki . At the individual distance world championships in Inzell in 2019 , she won the silver medal over 5000 m. At the World Cup finals in Salt Lake City she came second over 3000 m and came second in the overall World Cup over 3000/5000 m.
