Esslingen parish church
The Esslinger parish church is located in the center of Essling , a district of Vienna in the 22nd district of Donaustadt . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to Saint Joseph of Nazareth belongs to the city dean's office 22 in the Vicariate of Vienna City of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).
history
In 1939 Essling was raised to a branch of the parish Groß-Enzersdorf and on January 1, 1946 an independent parish.
Remains of the previous church, built between 1828 and 1831, have been preserved in the area of the sacristy. In 1937 a new church was built according to the plans of the architect Heinrich Vana. In 1982 the outside of the church was restored. In 1987 the interior of the church was redesigned by the Viennese architect Heinz Dieter Kajaba. The organ was restored and re-installed in 1990. The church was expanded and renovated in 2015/2016 according to plans by the architects Pointner & Pointner and consecrated on September 9, 2016 by Episcopal Vicar Dariusz Schutzki.

The church is a simple hall building with a gable front and a side church tower in the north.
Furnishing
The crucifix is a bronze work by Angela Stadtherr from 1938. The mosaics on the altar wall and the Way of the Cross are by Benedict Schmitz from 1990. To the right of the main entrance is a wooden statue of the Holy Family .
