The Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano is a football stadium located in the Spanish capital, Madrid . The venue is part of the Ciudad Real Madrid sports complex in the north-east of the capital, in the new Valdebebas district in the Barajas district , near Madrid-Barajas Airport and the IFEMA exhibition center .

The stadium serves as the home of Real Madrid Castilla , the second team of the Real Madrid soccer club , and bears the name in honor of the former soccer player Alfredo Di Stéfano .

history

The old "Ciudad Deportiva" ( German  sports city ) of the Real Madrid football club , which was sold in 2001 to repay debt for around € 480 million, also housed the competition venue for the second team. When the stadium had to give way to the construction site of the Cuatro Torres Business Area in 2003 , the club decided to build a new stadium for Real Madrid Castilla . This was officially opened in the new Ciudad Real Madrid ( German  Real Madrid City ) on May 9, 2006 as part of a friendly between Real Madrid and Stade de Reims , a clash that also commemorated the 50th anniversary of the first European Cup final between these two teams . The match ended 6-1 for the home team, with Sergio Ramos being the first goal scorer at the new stadium .

In 2012, new grandstands were built behind the two gates, increasing the capacity to around 8,400 spectators.

Due to the postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic , Real Madrid's first team played the remaining games of the 2019/20 season as ghost games at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano. The renovation work had already started in the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu and the association wanted to push ahead with the modernization undisturbed.
