Eternium is the third studio album by the Finnish thrash metal band Diablo . It was released on January 19, 2004 via Poko Rekords and on September 27, 2004 via Drakkar Entertainment .

Origin and background

During the songwriting for their new album, the musicians placed more emphasis on the dynamics of the songs. The guitars were tuned to B to get a darker overall sound . All titles were written by Rainer Nygård & Marko Utriainen. The recordings took place in the Fantom Studios in Tampere . The album was produced by Samu Oittinen, Rainer Nygård & Marko Utriainen.

Guest singers appeared on the song Queen of Entity Jytt from the band Pornorphans , Markku Kivistö from the band Pain Confessor and "G" from the band Rotten Sound . For singer Rainer Nygård, the song Symbol of Eternity is a tribute to Death singer Chuck Schuldiner . At the beginning of the song you can hear a sample of the Finnish folk song Rattaanpyörä in the version by Reino Helismaa .

For the song Read My Scars one was music video rotated. On September 27, 2004, the album was released outside of Finland via Drakkar Entertainment. This makes Eternium the band's first album to be released outside of their home country.

Detlef Dengler from the German magazine Metal Hammer described Eternium as the "perfect symbiosis of traditional Thrash Metal like Testament and Techno-Thrash Metal like Coroner , enriched with a shot of soilwork and of course a hearty breeze of Death", for which he awarded six out of seven points. For Alex Straka from the online magazine Powermetal.de , Eternium is a "crystal clear and boldly produced disc with almost exclusively first-class killer tracks" that "will perform a monkey dance in the big circus". David Gregori from the online magazine Metal.de described Eternium as a killer disc, because of the "often woven harmonies and guitar runs that are usually more familiar from the Gothenburg melo-death corner". He rated the album eight out of ten.

Both the album and the released single Read My Scars reached number three in the Finnish charts. Outside of their homeland, the album could not reach any chart position.
