Pain Confessor is a Finnish melodic death metal band from Hämeenlinna that was founded in 2002.

history

The band was formed in August 2002. The line-up initially consisted of the guitarists Vesa “Wesleyer” Säkkinen and Tuomas Kuusinen, the singer Markku Kivistö, the bassist Mikko Kivistö and the drummer Mikko Laihanen. The following year she signed a recording deal to release three albums with Megamania . In March 2004 the first single appeared under the name Poor Man's Crown . In May the debut album was recorded, which was released in September under the name Turmoil in Finland. In 2005 the band was voted Newcomer of the Year at the Sirkkelirock Metal Weekend . Shortly after the album was released in Germany , Switzerland and Austria in August 2005 , the second album was recorded in September. In the same year the group could be seen at the Tuska Open Air Metal Festival . In February 2006 the single Fall on Evil Days was released , for which a music video was created and which entered the Finnish single charts at number 15 and reached number six in the second week. In March, the second album Fearrage , which was recorded with co-producer Janne Saksa in the Sound Supreme studio, was released in Finland, which reached number 26 in the Finnish album charts. In May the album was released in Japan on Wood Bell Records , before work on the third album began in autumn 2006 and the Fantom Studio in Tampere was moved into on December 16 , where Samu Oittinen took over the recording management. In 2006 the group was again represented at the Tuska Open Air Metal Festival. In January 2007 the song Ne Plus Ultra was published online in advance , and a music video was also created for this. In February the song was released as a single along with a cover version of Eye of the Tiger , before the album Purgatory of the Second Sun was released in March . The album was released across Europe by Plastic Head Distribution . Ne Plus Ultra took first place, the album number 15 in the Finnish charts. Then the group separated from Megamania. In 2007 the group could be seen at the Sauna Open Air . In early 2008, the band recorded another demo. At the same time, she was looking for a new label, and for the rest of the year she largely took a break. In November 2008 the band separated from the guitarist Vesa "Wesleyer" Säkkinen. Tomy Laisto first came as support for live performances. Tommi Kurki was then found as a permanent member. In addition to Kurki, the line-up now consisted of the singer Markku Kivistö, the bassist Mikko Kivistö, the guitarist Tuomas Kuusinen, the keyboardist Pasi Laihanen and the drummer Mikko Laihanen. In 2009 a demo appeared online with three new songs. Kurki was then replaced by Samuli Federley, before new songs were written in late 2010 to early 2011, which appeared in the form of a demo containing the two songs Serpent Spine and Never . Then the drummer Mikko Laihanen was exchanged for Aki Kuusinen. From 2011 to early 2012 a new album was written, and the group signed a contract with Spinefarm Records in early 2012 . The album was recorded in the summer of 2012 and released in October of that year under the name Incarcerated on Spinefarm Records. The album took 28th place in the Finnish album charts.

style

Frank Albrecht from Rock Hard found that Turmoil doesn't sound typically Finnish at all and found it difficult to classify the music stylistically, although it was not particularly innovative. The group oscillates between classic Thrash Metal riffs in the style of the San Francisco Bay Area , guitar harmonies in the style of In Flames , Pantera - grooves and Annihilator riffs. The singing is hard and aggressive, while the songs are underlaid with subtle and melodic keyboard sounds. Most often, however, he noticed parallels to the power metal band Morgana Lefay . Tolga Karabagli from Powermetal.de assigned the album to Melodic Death Metal, with the group listening to some of the things from bands such as Hypocrisy , In Flames and Soilwork ; Nevertheless, Pain Confessor managed to develop its own sound. In addition to similarities to Sinner and Axel Rudi Pell, there are also influences from Metalcore . Overall, the band is qualitatively in the same league as Fear My Thoughts , Communic , Soilwork and In Flames. Dory Khawand from metal-temple.com described Incarcerated as Melodic Death Metal with slight influences of old-fashioned Metalcore.
