geography

Ettmannsdorf is located on the banks of the Naab , three kilometers southwest of Schwandorf.

history

Between the year 1010 and 1020 the noble Diethard gave his estate "Zetmasdorf" to the Regensburg monastery when he entered the monastery of Sankt Emmeram .

In 1600 the old hammer lock was built by Wilhelm Neumayer. Today it is privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside at Ettmannsdorfer Straße 86. On the east side there is a stone tablet above the entrance to the stair tower on which the initials of the builder and the year of construction are entered.

On the opposite side of the street is the new castle built around 1700 by Peter Wenzel Freiherr von Rußwurm. From 1866 to 1992 it was owned by the Order of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, who initially ran an institution for orphaned and neglected children. In 1962 there were 45 religious sisters, one free sister, 35 secular workers and one chaplain in the Ettmannsdorf monastery.

The Catholic youth welfare of the diocese of Regensburg set up a vocational school in the new castle in 1981 to encourage individual learning, and in 1992 took over the entire facility. In the years that followed, workshops for wood, metal and paint, as well as a garden center with greenhouses, a laundry, residential groups for male youth and leisure rooms with a cafeteria, pottery, barbecue area and a gymnasium were created.

On February 7, 1958, the bell tower of the Romanesque Ettmannsdorfer St. Vitalis Church, built in the 12th century, collapsed and destroyed the old church. It was replaced at another location by a simple modern church building, today the parish church of St. Konrad, which was completed by 1970.

Population development

On March 23, 1913 (Easter), Ettmannsdorf was part of the Schwandorf parish and had 44 houses and 537 Catholics. Ettmannsdorf has been a parish since July 1, 1970, consisting of the villages of Ettmannsdorf, Egidiberg, Löllsanlage and Sitzenhof. The Ettmannsdorf parish had 2,118 Catholics and 126 non-Catholics at that time.

Ettmannsdorf has been part of the large district town of Schwandorf since 1972.

Attractions

The former hammer lock, Ettmannsdorfer Straße 86 , a hipped roof building, built around 1600 with a coat of arms above the portal. The windows were changed in the 19th century. Opposite is the new castle from the 18th century with a church, boarding school and vocational school.

The Franconian Way of St. James runs through Ettmannsdorf from Schwandorf along the banks of the Naab. In order to visit the castles, the pilgrim has to cross the Naab Bridge and then return over the bridge on the path that continues south to Naabsiegenhofen , 1.5 km away .
