Ettore Rossi

Ettore Rossi (born August 31, 1915 in Locarno ; † December 5, 1998 in Bern , Catholic , resident in Arzo ) was a Swiss pediatrician .

Life

Ettore Rossi was born on August 31, 1915 in Locarno as the son of the owner of a marble quarry and stone carver Ettore Giuseppe Giovanni Rossi and the Luigina born Jacometti. After attending secondary school in Locarno, Ettore Rossi began studying medicine in Milan , which he completed in 1940 with the academic degree of Dr. med. completed. Rossi then worked as an assistant and senior physician at the Children's Hospital in Zurich with Professor Guido Fanconi .

After his habilitation in 1952, Rossi worked from 1957 to 1985 as a full professor of paediatrics and director of the children's clinic at the University of Bern . In the new building opened in 1978, Ettore Rossi created a pediatric center, which he helped to gain international reputation as a teacher and sponsor of the next generation of pediatricians.

Ettore Rossi also published around 400 papers, including on pediatric cardiology , cystic fibrosis and metabolic disorders . In addition, Ettore Rossi was a member and president of several European pediatric committees and societies, and from 1968 to 1976 a member of the Swiss Science Council.

In 1972 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

Ettore Rossi received a total of six honorary doctorates for his achievements in the field of paediatrics .

Ettore Rossi, who was married to Valeria, born Rossetti, died on December 5, 1998 at the age of 83 in Bern. He was the brother of the sculptor Remo Rossi .
