Eugen Klagemann (born February 1, 1902 in Berlin ; † November 5, 1980 there ) was a German cameraman .

Life

Klagemann began his professional career in 1917 as a photo assistant and became a camera assistant in the 1920s . From 1928 he worked as a simple cameraman and also as a still photographer . In these functions he worked on more than 40 films. In January 1943 he worked for the Tobis alongside Fritz Arno Wagner for the first time as an independent cameraman, and in 1944 he had sole responsibility for Paul Verhoeven's Das Konzert for the first time.

At the side of Friedl Behn-Grund , Klagemann resumed his work in 1946. In the post-war years he became one of the most important chief operators of DEFA , to whom he remained loyal apart from two films for Real-Film in 1948 to 1961. In addition to Behn-Grund, he was primarily responsible for the two classics The Murderers Are Among Us and Marriage in the Shadow , in which the lighting and image settings were particularly positively emphasized by the critics.

After the well-equipped film operas Figaro's Wedding and The Funny Wives of Windsor , however, he was unable to further distinguish himself. The construction of the Wall in 1961 largely ended the career of the cameraman based in Charlottenburg in West Berlin . His contract with DEFA expired on March 31, 1962. In 1962 he worked again as a subordinate cameraman in the Austrian film Wedding Night in Paradise at Friedl Behn-Grund's side.
