Georg (= baptismal name) Schmid graduated from the Jesuit high school in Munich in 1707 (today Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich ). In 1709 he entered the Waldsassen monastery and was given the monastery name Eugen. From 1714 he was pastor of Tirschenreuth . As abbot, unlike his predecessors, he took over a lively and well-equipped monastery so that he could concentrate on economic and pastoral aspects. From 1724 to 1726 he had the Waldsassen Abbey Library expanded and it largely owes its current appearance to him. The abbot is represented there with his coat of arms, his insignia and his portrait in the vaulted ceiling. The commissioned artists include the sculptor Karl Stilp , the painter Karl Hofreiter and the plasterer Jacopo Appiani . With the permission of the abbot himself Frater Galgan Schneider moved (1682-1738) as the first hermit in Köller green and built a hermitage and chapel. Eugen Schmid appeared as a client several times, for example at the parish church of the Assumption of Mary in Beidl , and for example installed an organ in the Trinity Church in Kappl . In 1734 he was appointed Vicar General and Visitator of the Province of Bavaria and in 1738 attended the General Chapter of the Cistercian Order in the Cîteaux Monastery .
