origin

Eugen Freiherr von Beaulieu-Marconnay came from the Hanoverian branch of the originally French noble family Beaulieu-Marconnay . As Protestants, his ancestors were forced to leave their homeland when the Edict of Nantes was repealed in 1685 and settled in Germany. The family provided officials and soldiers in several German principalities.

Beaulieu was the son of the Oldenburg State Minister Wilhelm Ernst von Beaulieu-Marconnay (1786-1859) and his first wife Johanna geb. Mentz (1793-1850). His brother was Karl von Beaulieu-Marconnay (1811-1889), who later became court marshal in the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach .

Beaulieu attended high schools in Oldenburg and Rinteln and studied law at the universities of Berlin and Göttingen from 1832 to 1836 . In April 1837 he entered the Oldenburg civil service and initially worked as an official auditor in Eutin and then as the office secretary in Oldenburg. In 1842 he became an assessor at the district court in Ovelgönne , came to the district court in Jever in 1844 and was transferred to the district court of Oldenburg in 1845 . In 1852 he was assigned to the judicial office as assistant judge and in 1856 he was promoted to senior judge. In 1858 he was made senior appellate councilor and in 1874 vice-president of the court of appeal in Oldenburg . On January 1, 1878, he was appointed President of the Higher Appeal Court and, after its dissolution, on January 1, 1879, took over as President of the higher regional court, which was established as the successor authority and which he held until May 1, 1892. From 1878 to 1892 he also served as President of the Evangelical High School College.

Beaulieu had strong literary interests and was close friends with the poet Julius Mosen . From 1879 to 1851 he was a member of the literary-sociable society and in 1859 was accepted into the Literary Society of Oldenburg. He was in correspondence with the actor and writer Emil Palleske . He helped determine the social and intellectual life of the royal seat and, alongside Günther Heinrich von Berg and Christian Ludwig Runde, was one of the most important lawyers in Oldenburg in the 19th century. He was also socially committed.
