Eugen von Miller zu Aichholz (industrialist, 1835)

Eugen von Miller zu Aichholz (* 1835 ; † July 27, 1919 in Vienna ) was an Austrian industrialist, collector and patron from the Miller-Aichholz family . He was a son of Josef von Miller zu Aichholz (1797–1871) and had 14 siblings.

Life

Miller-Aichholz, a bachelor throughout his life, was a patron of the visual arts and founded an art collection that was mainly composed of objects from the Italian Renaissance . He promoted young artists such as Ludwig Kasper and was close friends with artists such as Rudolf von Alt and August von Pettenkofen . Miller-Aichholz suggested the construction of the Georg-Raphael-Donner monument and the construction of the Minvervagbrunnen . He was buried at the Meidlinger Friedhof .

From 1877 to 1880 he had the Miller-Aichholz Palace built in the 4th district of Wieden in Vienna . The stairwell was decorated with five of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo's most important early colossal paintings. It was sold in 1919 and demolished in 1961.
