Eugenie Clark (born May 4, 1922 in New York City , † February 25, 2015 in Sarasota , Florida ) was an American zoologist and professor.

The ichthyologist is known for her work on poisonous fish and researching the behavior of sharks , which earned her the nickname The Shark Lady . She is considered a pioneer of scuba diving in the study of fish under natural living conditions and worked a. a. with the National Science Foundation or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration . About her work was u. a. Reported in National Geographic Magazine and in several TV documentaries. Clark taught at several universities around the world and was a co-founder of the Mote Marine Laboratory . She published numerous works, was the subject of several books and received numerous awards. Furthermore, several species of fish, such as. B. the Callogobius clarki, named after Eugenie Clark. Clark died on February 25, 2015, at the age of 92, at her home in Sarasota, Florida, of complications from lung cancer .
