Euphrosyne Gouzoulis-Mayfrank

Euphrosyne Gouzoulis-Mayfrank (* 1961 in Athens ) is a psychiatrist and neurologist as well as medical director and department doctor of General Psychiatry II at the LVR Clinic in Cologne. In addition, she is director of the LVR Institute for Health Services Research . Her scientific focus is on the acute and long-term effects of intoxicating drugs in humans as well as the basics and treatment of the comorbidity of psychosis and addiction .

Life

Gouzoulis-Mayfrank was born in Athens in 1961 as the daughter of a mechanical engineer and attended the German School in her hometown, from which she graduated in 1979 with the Abitur. In the same year she came to Germany to study, where she studied medicine at the University of Mainz until 1984 . She completed her practical year with the elective subject psychiatry at the Athens University Hospital. She did her doctorate in 1986 at the Pharmacological Institute of the University of Mainz with a thesis on endogenous dopamine in respiratory regulation.

At the University Hospital Freiburg , she completed 1986-1993 training in neurology, psychiatry and in psychodynamic psychotherapy , as well as behavioral therapy . She then worked as a senior physician at the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University Hospital Aachen until 2003. During this time she completed her habilitation in psychiatry and psychotherapy with a thesis on the effects of hallucinogenic , entactogenic and psychostimulatory substances on humans. From 2003 she was professor and senior physician at the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University of Cologne , before becoming medical director and department doctor for general psychiatry at the LVR Clinic Cologne-Merheim in 2008 . Since 2016 she has also been director of the LVR Institute for Health Services Research . From 2009 to 2013, she completed the Health Business Administration course , which she completed with a Master’s degree in 2013.

Gouzoulis-Mayfrank is, among other things, a member of the Expert Committee for Narcotics of the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices and a board member of the Federal Conference of Directors and the State Association of Leading Doctors for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in North Rhine-Westphalia. Since 2013 she has been working on the medical guidelines on alcohol-related disorders, methamphetamine- related disorders and schizophrenia .
