Europa Universalis: Rome

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Europa Universalis: Rome is a spin-off of the Europa Universalis series that appeared in April 2008 . Like the games in the main series, it is a real - time global strategy game and was developed by Paradox Interactive .

Gameplay

The game describes the period between 280 and 27 BC. And includes scenarios like the first two Punic Wars or the Gallic Wars . The aim of the game is to lead one of 10 selectable cultures to the most powerful of their time through skillful diplomacy, military strength and a functioning economy. There are no fixed missions or victory conditions, the player can and must set his own goals. He is free to play ahistorically or according to historically correct facts. He can directly influence significant historical events .

Compared to Europa Universalis , the economic and research concept has been simplified. The trading system has a higher priority. Trade routes determine, for example, which military units can be set up in a province. Similar to the Crusader Kings series, dynasties are simulated.

The game can be played in single player mode, in multiplayer mode and also cooperatively .

With the expansion pack Vae Victis (Latin for "woe to the vanquished") released in November 2008, new areas, laws, decision-making options and missions as well as several historical characters were added to the game.

reception

The game received mixed reviews. Martin Deppe described it in GameStar as a "historically correct, very dry strategy game".

successor

In 2018 a sequel called Imperator: Rome was announced, which was released on April 25, 2019.
