European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics 1978

The 1st European Championships of Rhythmic Gymnastics took place between October 10th and 12th 1978 in Madrid , Spain . A total of five disciplines were completed: team, individual all-around and the device finals with the rope, ribbon and ball.

Results

Individual all-around

Galima Schugurowa (URS): First European champion in individual all-around, on rope and with a ribbon
Susanne Ebert (GDR), 11th place in the individual all-around, reached the final with the ribbon
Sabine Ploetz (GDR), 10th place in the individual all-around

To determine the total score, the points from the sub-disciplines rope, ball and ribbon were added together.
The eight best athletes in the sub-disciplines (highlighted here in italics) contested the equipment finals.
