European Club Cup 2018

The European Club Cup 2018 took place from October 11th to 19th, 2018 in the Greek seaside resort of Porto Carras . It was the 34th edition of the European Club Cup , the European championship of clubs. The 23rd edition of the women's tournament took place at the same time.

Event

The Hotel Sithonia in Porto Carras

The tournament took place in the Congress Center in Porto Carras, the players were accommodated in the Hotel Sithonia. The field of participants consisted of 61 teams from 26 nations. Each team nominates seven to eight players for the tournament, a team fight is played in a six-on-six format, and four-on-four for women. Seven rounds were played in the Swiss system , the time was 90 minutes for the first 40 moves and then an additional 30 minutes for the rest of the game. The tournament's prize fund totaled € 40,000, with € 22,000 for the teams in the main field, € 13,000 for the teams in the women's tournament and a total of € 5,000 for the best individual performances on a board.

Main field

The tournament took alkaloid from Macedonia , AVE Nový Bor from the Czech Republic and Odlar Yurdu from Azerbaijan three teams with an Elo -average of more than 2700 part. With Magnus Carlsen for Vålerenga Sjakklubb , Şəhriyar Məmmədyarov for Odlar Yurdu and Ding Liren for Alkaloid, three players from the top 4 of the current world rankings took part in the tournament.

Women

The women's seeding list was headed by the Georgian team Nona ahead of the Cercle d'Échecs de Monte-Carlo . Anna Musytschuk had the highest rating of all participants with 2555 points.

Main field

After five of seven rounds, several teams were still tied with a record of four wins and one draw. After the sixth round, Vålerenga Sjakklubb was the only team to top the table with six wins and one draw after a surprising victory over favorites Alkaloid. On the last day of the match, the team around world champion Magnus Carlsen lost 4-2 against Medny Vsadnik St.Petersburg and had to give the Russian team around Pyotr Swidler the title.

The German participants Schachgesellschaft Solingen , SF Berlin , DJK Aufwärts St. Josef Aachen 1920 and SV Werder Bremen took places 14, 15, 17 and 19.

The Swiss participants Schachgesellschaft Zürich and Schachgesellschaft Winterthur came in 22nd and 38th.

The board prizes went to Ding Liren (board 1), Nikita Witjugow (board 2), Wladimir Fedossejew (board 3), Maxim Matlakow (board 4), Daniele Vocaturo (board 5), Markus Ragger (board 6), Viktor Láznička (board 7 / replacement 1) and Danyyil Dvirnyy (board 8 / replacement 2).

Women

In the women’s category, Cercle d'Échecs de Monte-Carlo won ahead of Nona, the team with the highest Elo average.

The board prizes went to Anna Musytschuk (board 1), Pia Cramling (board 2), Lela Dschawachischwili (board 3), Deimantė Cornette (board 4) and Elena Semenowa (board 5 / substitute 1).
