European Jews for a Just Peace (EJJP) is a federation of Jewish groups active in several European countries who are committed to a viable Palestinian state. The demands of the organization include the immediate withdrawal of Israel from the Israeli-occupied territories and the dismantling of all Israeli settlements there .

Member groups exist in Belgium , Denmark , Germany , France , Italy , the Netherlands , Austria , Sweden , Switzerland and the United Kingdom . The German member group is called the Jewish Voice for a Just Peace in the Middle East - EJJP Germany .

Development and Principles

The organization was founded in September 2002 by 18 Jewish organizations from 9 European countries in Amsterdam. Its principles were written down in the "Amsterdam Declaration" 2002:

  • Any violence committed against civilians in the conflict, regardless of the side and by whom, will be condemned.
  • Israel is recognized within the 1967 borders.
  • The right of the Palestinians to found their own state in the Gaza Strip , West Bank and East Jerusalem is recognized.
  • The right of both states to have Jerusalem as their capital is recognized.
  • Israel is called to do its part in solving the Palestinian refugee problem and is obliged to negotiate a just, fair and practical solution.

According to its own account, the EJJP sees its tasks as encouraging the European Union to adopt a position in the Middle East conflict that is independent of the USA and to reduce the historically determined unwillingness to express legitimate criticism of Israeli government policy (assumed by the EJJP). The group works with others who are fighting for Palestinian rights. According to the EJJP spokesman R. Kupers, Jewish groups play an important role in rejecting “unjustified accusations of anti-Semitism ”. EJJP distances itself from anti-Semitic attitudes and attacks. The organization called on the UN to clarify in its definition of anti-Semitism that criticism of Israel should not be equated with hatred of Jews. At the same time, the organization accuses Israel of "serious violations" of the Geneva Convention in the occupied territories.

activities

The organization participated, represented by its spokesman Richard Kuper, at the United Nations Forum of Civil Society in Support of Middle East Peace Process in Cape Town in July 2004 and at the UN International Conference of Civil Society in Support of Israeli-Palaestinian Peace in Brussels in August 2007 part.
