Dror Feiler (born August 31, 1951 in Tel Aviv ) is a Swedish - Israeli composer of new music , noise musician and activist .

Life

Youth in Israel

From 1965 onwards, Feiler lived with his parents and his two years younger sister in a kibbutz , where he completed training at a agricultural school until 1969 . Feiler served as a paratrooper in the Israeli armed forces , was specially trained there as a mine clearer and in 1970 was one of the first "Refuzniks" to refuse service in the Israeli-occupied territories , which made him a conscientious objector under Israeli law , whereupon he worked for the remaining two and a half Years of military service was commanded to serve in the local kibbutz. In 1973 he finally migrated to Sweden.

Artistic creation

From 1975 Feiler dealt with New Music through the artists' association Fylkingen , before he began studying musicology at Stockholm University in 1977 , which he finished after two semesters. He then studied composition with Gunnar Bucht , Sven-David Sandström and Brian Ferneyhough for five years at the Royal Music Academy in Stockholm until 1983 . He later married the Swedish visual artist Gunilla Sköld, who was two years his junior .

Social Commitment

Feiler is chairman of the organization European Jews for a Just Peace (EJJP) and its Swedish section Judar för israelisk-palestinsk fred (JIPF). In May 2010, Feiler and writer Henning Mankell accompanied a convoy of the Free Gaza Movement and were on board the Sofia when the convoy was boarded by the Israeli Navy . He himself suffered broken ribs and minor injuries to his face. His saxophone was confiscated and has not been returned to this day.

As a candidate for the Swedish Left Party , Feiler applied for a seat as a member of the European Parliament in 2014 and was once again placed on the party's list for the 2018 election to the Swedish Parliament .

Feiler and his wife live together in Stockholm .
