European Women's Management Development (EWMD) is an association of working women in Europe. The association, based in Wiesbaden, has almost 900 members.

history

EWMD was founded in 1984 by women from business schools, universities and corporations across Europe. At the time, the main objective was to promote women into management by showing the participation of women and their experiences through studies and good best practice examples from the ranks of European companies and business schools. It was also one of the first EWMD campaigns to offer new role models for young working women. The founders were Gay Haskins and Valerie Hammond from England, Helga Stödter , Ariane Berthoin Antal and Camilla Krebsbach-Gnath from Germany , Frederica Olivares and Ambra Poli from Italy , Margit Wallsten from Sweden and Elisabeth Michel-Alder from Switzerland . The establishment was supported by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) in Brussels.

Today the main goal of EWMD is to increase the visibility and participation of qualified women in leadership positions in business and management. The quality of management should be improved through women and more diversity . In July 2008 the "Women on Board" project (women started Supervisory Board / Board ). EWMD advocates a 40 percent quota of women on the supervisory board based on the Norwegian model. In 2010 EWMD signed the Nuremberg Resolution .
